Fighting fraud without borders: cross-regional collaboration in Latin America and beyond [Invite-Only Roundtable]
Description

Fighting fraud without borders: cross-regional collaboration in Latin America and beyond

A candid conversation about what coordination looks like in practice — and what's still missing

If you're interested in attending, please contact Mexico Chapter Director Sissi De La Peña: sissi.delapena@gasa.org.

Online fraud and scams don't recognize national boundaries — and increasingly, neither do the criminal networks behind them. Across Latin America, trust and safety practitioners are grappling with fraud typologies that migrate rapidly across borders: pig butchering operations that move between Mexico and Brazil, romance scams that are localized with startling speed, and investment fraud schemes amplified by regionally specific social platforms.

Yet our responses remain fragmented. Regulatory jurisdictions differ. Intelligence rarely travels at the speed threats do. And the tools, frameworks, and coalitions built in North America or Europe often don't translate cleanly to the LATAM context — or they arrive too late to matter.

This invite-only roundtable brings together practitioners from across Latin America and their counterparts in North America who work on LATAM collaboration, to have an honest conversation about what cross-regional cooperation actually looks like on the ground today — not in theory, but in practice. What's working? What isn't? And what would it take to do this better?

WHO WILL BE THERE

LATAM-based practitioners: Trust and safety, fraud, and policy professionals working on online scams and fraud in Latin American markets.

North America–LATAM collaborators: Practitioners based in the US, Canada, or globally whose work includes meaningful engagement with Latin American teams, partners, or threat actors.

Regional leads and chapter members: Those involved in building or sustaining regional trust and safety communities, particularly across the Americas.

Cross-functional partners: Legal, policy, and law enforcement liaison roles whose work shapes the conditions for cross-border cooperation.

This session is conducted under Chatham House rules. Attendance is by invitation only. The session will be held in English to support cross-regional participation. If you're interested in attending, please contact Mexico Chapter Director Sissi De La Peña: sissi.delapena@gasa.org.
